Get well soon!!! From Fluid and the gang.

This week's Big Pad...

I am an artist - that is how i define myself, my career path, my life, how i think. I am not some "guy" who draws for a living. It is not a JOB. It is a way of life. Not too many "non" artists see it this way... they'll look at you awkwardly. Well, i'm sorry if I'm not watching the football game and going shopping at the mall ... hanging out with friends and gossipping about what the latest hippity hop star is wearing. I'm not a recluse, but I AM an artist... and drawing is the essence of my life.

SO... with that rant out of the way... you'll notice i tend to add lots of junk onto whomever model is posing at the time. Lots of time it ends up looking like crap.

Yeah... she's got shorts on... spur of the moment, bad concept design for the torso, but i like her hands and her helmet.

Ran out of time to finish the critter, never bothered to finish... like the hair :)

The old silverback of a gorilla instructor struck this 3 minute pose with a hefty bellow "TURN ME INTO A GIRL!"... so i did :)

Time ran out on the last pose, never got to finish... but something about this drawing I like...

mmmmyeah... so that's it!

photoshop doodle @ work

ok, now i go do some real work.

Monday, August 07, 2006

Since i haven't been drawing :(

... because work is busy busy busy ...

Tomorrow I will be interviewed by KTVU in the GreenScreen Room @ 180. Supposedly they are interviewing me because the CG char that is used as the Guide for their half hour special was designed by Me and Ryan Long - he is an amazing 3D guy... wonderful rigging and absolute solid modeling skills. He's my Buddy!

So in the meantime, some reaaaaaly old rejected concepts from work for a particular friend to another concept. I posted these on conceptArt.org once, but had to take them down.

My humongoid backlog of sketches

Here's the backlog of art done from various QuickStudies workshops... those are the only ones i can find time to attend ? :( On a brighter note: School Interview - I got interviewed from the Academy about my role in Lucy: the Daughter of the Devil. That's sweet! NAME ReCOGNITION woo hoo!

I thought that the interview fell through the holes, but then someone at the school pointed it out that it was on the main illustration dept web for a while. That's nice! I'm happy :)

more backlog

Some more quickstudies.

Workshops...

3 minute drawing...

While at the workshop, I had a chance to glimpse at work by Jason Chan. I was really impressed. People say that he doesn't draw from the model much (or uses it for reference) - what's the big deal? Who cares? As long as Jason loves the work that he does, then doesn't that count? Art is for the individual and that individuals extension of their mind. Otherwise, why bother? Just take a photo and trace.

Too many artists with too many self objected opinions and throw in arrogance to boot... I really don't care. I consider my work to be not as good as others, and always seek improvements... but I seek it in my own way with my own discoveries. I believe that is why I still have the job that I do and why some people enjoy my work (PBS, KQED, and the folks down in L.A.).

So if people want to draw what they want, more power to them. That's the way it should be, no one else should tell you what to do or what you should be doing.

Lucy DOTD Ep. 1

BTW forgot to add a link to LUCY DAUGHTER OF THE DEVIL

i designed all the characters (with tweaks done by the director and other artists), worked on storyboards, and matte work.

ENJOY!

Lucy

My Art !@$#

Oh my god... my art sucks balls. Today @ work realized designs closely matched some of miyazaki's stuff... real bad, looks like i ripped em off good. UGH... UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH i hate that. very depressing when one of your work resembles another person's work. It really could just look like a nice lawsuit on me.
